President's Statement

Last year, I had a great time with the Criminal Justice Society, finding their events extremely useful for my law journey. I am honoured to be leading the society this year! With an exciting lineup of events for our members to look forward to and a membership fee for as low as £3, there's no better time than now to join Bristol Criminal Justice Society!

CJS is expanding this year to cover new opportunities for our members. We will be hosting our first two court trips in Autumn 2025, with our members having the opportunity to visit the Bristol Crown Court to watch live advocacy and the chance to join us on our first London trip of the year: a visit to Parliament and a tour of the UK Supreme Court. Thanks to society funds, our London trips this year will be heavily subsidised and affordable to all.

With a commitment to finding careers opportunities and inspiration for our members, we are also excited to host careers talks, academic discussions surrounding criminal justice, and follow last term's mooting success by hosting more criminal moots in both term 1 and term 2. Once again, the Inns of Court College of Advocacy is joining us in October to give our members a talk on the bar course and issues surrounding miscarriages of justice, kicking off another year of exclusive speaker events. We will also be partnering with legal professionals to bring our members careers talks and opportunities.

For freshers and new members:

Please join us for our annual FREE 'give it a go' debate in the Balloon Bar, and come and say hello to us at the Law Fair and Bristol SU Welcome Fair! Updates are always posted on our instagram, @bristolCJS. Our society is one of the cheapest law societies to join at Bristol, but our lineup of opportunities is worth every penny and I am so excited to bring more to our members.
